How to Tell the Difference Between Airpods 1 and 2
The differences between the first and second models of Apple's AirPod earbuds are few but important. Here they are and how to tell which version you have.
What's the Difference Between AirPods 1 and 2?
With a quick look, you won't see any visual differences between the mutual savings association online banking base models of AirPods. They're the same size and weight. But the 2019 AirPods 2 have some updated hardware inside, making them worth trading up to if you already own the 2016 model. Here's a quick rundown of the changes.
Chips: W1 vs. H1
The original AirPods, along with some Beats headphones, use Apple's W1 chip. Later iterations of this processor appear in the Apple Watch.
The newer H1 processor is Apple's current standard for its audio devices. Along with the 2019 AirPods, you'll find this chipset in Airpods Pro, AirPods Max headphones, and other Beats headphones like the Powerbeats and Powerbeats Pro.
Here are some differences between the W1 and H1 chips:
- The newer H1 supports the "Hey, Siri" vocal command to access Apple's digital assistant. In the original AirPods, you could only activate Siri by tapping one of the pods.
- H1 chips have 30% less latency over Bluetooth than W1s. You may not notice this difference while listening to music, but you might if you wear AirPods while playing games or watching movies.
- H1 chips, which support Bluetooth 5, are also faster to connect to other devices–like an iPhone–than the W1 chip (which supports Bluetooth 4.2).
Battery Life: Not Much Difference
Apple claims that both kinds of AirPods support up to 24 hours of listening time between the headphones and the extra charges you get from the wireless case (five hours per charge). But because of the energy efficiencies that the new chipset provides, it says that the more recent version will let you talk longer.
According to Apple's fact sheets, AirPods 1 support about two hours of talking time, while the updated model can do three. Still, you may not notice a significant impact during everyday use of either version.
Compatibility: Stay Up to Date to Use All the Features
The original AirPods were compatible with phones and tablets running iOS 10, and later, Apple Watches using watchOS 3 and up, or Macs running at least macOS Sierra (10.12). Those base requirements should also be good enough to use the AirPods 2, but to access every feature, you'll need at least iOS 13 or iPadOS.
Because AirPods use Bluetooth to connect, you can also use them with non-Mac computers and Android phones. You difference between 1st gen airpods and 2nd not have access to every feature. For example, non-Apple devices don't have Siri.
How to Tell Which AirPods Version You Have
If you're curious about which generation your AirPods are, you can try a few methods to find the model number. First, however, you should know the model numbers of both versions. Here they are:
- AirPods 1: A1523 or A1722
- AirPods 2: A2032 or A2031
The quickest (but hardest) way to find your AirPods' model number is to look on the earbuds themselves. Each earbud has the model and serial number in tiny print underneath the earpiece.
You can also check on your iPhone. In iOS 14 and later, open Settings and select Bluetooth. Then, tap the i icon next to your Panorama book 1st grade and find the model number under About.
Difference between 1st gen airpods and 2nd earlier versions of iOS, go to Settings > General > About, and then tap the name of your AirPods. The next screen will show the model number.

AirPods (2nd Generation) Vs. AirPods (1st Generation): What’s New
If you already own the 1st generation AirPods, there’s really no reason for you to upgrade to the 2nd gen AirPods. While certain improvements are welcome like the improved battery life, they still short of the expectations that most people had from the 2nd generation AirPods.
AirPods (2nd Generation) Vs. AirPods (1st Generation): What’s Different
Improved Battery Life
This is one of the biggest changes in new AirPods (2nd generation). Thanks to the new H1 wireless chip, the new AirPods offer up to 8 hours of talk time. Plus, they offer more than 24 hours of listening time with the charging case. That’s a 50 percent improvement over the original AirPods which offer 4 hours of battery life on a single charge.
New H1 Headphone Chip
The new AirPods (2nd generation) feature Apple designed H1 headphone chip with a custom audio architecture. They are not only more efficient but also bring a hoard of other improvements. The new chip offers faster connect times, lower latency, improved audio quality, and faster switching times between iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch.
The new chip should also help fix the connectivity problems that original AirPods users
Apple claims some serious improvement in almost all connectivity related tasks for the new AirPods (2nd generation). This includes up to 2x faster switching times between devices, 1.5x faster connection time for phone calls, and 30 percent lower gaming latency. All this is on top of the improved audio quality brought about by the new chip.
Always-on ”Hey Siri”
The new H1 headphone chip also brings always-on “Hey Siri” detection to the new AirPods (2nd generation). This means that unlike the original AirPods, one no longer needs to tap the AirPods to trigger ”Hey Siri.” Instead, simply saying “Hey Siri” is going to be good enough to trigger the virtual assistant.
Also Available For the Original AirPods
Wireless Charging Case
Alongside the 2nd generation AirPods, Apple also unveiled the Wireless Charging case. However, instead of bundling it with the AirPods 2, Apple is selling it as an optional accessory. Customers looking to buy the AirPods (2nd generation) can buy a bundle with the wireless charging case for $199 instead of buying the AirPods and the charging case separately for v fau bb cream and $79.
The good news is that the wireless charging case is also compatible with the original AirPods. While wireless charging functionality might not be a big deal for many, it is definitely a convenient feature to have. If you own an iPhone with wireless charging, you can simply use that same charger to top off your AirPods and its carrying case. Or you can buy a wireless charger that is capable of charging two devices at once and then charge your iPhone and AirPods at the same time.
What the AirPods (2nd Generation) Don’t Offer
While the AirPods are definitely among the best Bluetooth earbuds you can buy, they are far from perfect. With the 2nd generation AirPods, customers were hoping that Apple would fix some of the major pain points of the original AirPods. However, that has not happened. The new AirPods continue to lack a lot of key features that other wireless Bluetooth earbuds are now offering.
- Improved in-ear fit
- Active noise-cancellation
- Better design
While the better design wish can be skipped, Apple should have offered a certain degree of water-resistance with the new AirPods. Even something like sweat-resistance would be good enough for most users. While the original AirPods themselves were good enough to survive gym workouts and light rain, they were not marketed as sweat-resistant by Apple. This meant that any kind of repair for liquid damage would end up requiring users to pay from their own pocket. And for most users, their AirPods did stop working after a few months of heavy use.
The original AirPods have also been criticized for their poor fit and the lack of active noise-cancellation. While these ommissions could have been forgiven when the AirPods were originally released, the market has changed considerably since then. Samsung, Bose, and other companies now offer true wireless Bluetooth earbuds that are superior to the AirPods in many aspects.

Apple’s 3rd-gen AirPods vs the 2nd-gen AirPods
Here’s how Apple’s new 3rd-gen AirPods stack up against their 2019 2nd-gen predecessor.
The first thing worth outlining is Apple’s full AirPods lineup. At the bottom end, there are the AirPods ($179). Above that are the new 3rd-gen AirPods at $239, and at the top of the spectrum, there are the AirPods Pro at $329.
Outside of this trifecta, there are also AirPods Max and several Beats earbuds with similar features.
But for now, let’s compare the 2nd-gen AirPods to their new 3rd-gen successor.
Compared to the original AirPods, the new wireless earbuds are a little smaller and sit at a bit more of an angle in your ears than the AirPods Pro.
You could easily mistake them for AirPods Pro from a distance, but up close, you’ll notice that they don’t feature a silicone tip and are a little smaller. This will likely make them less effective at keeping out background noise, but they’ll also take up less pocket space.
The new AirPods (3rd gen) also feature a slight indentation on each stem that lets you squeeze them to ‘play/pause’ music or hold to access Siri. While this new control method doesn’t add more functionality, it’s a less convoluted way to control audio than an ill-defined touch-sensitive air fryer oven walmart and is the same as the AirPods Pro.
Apple says that its new AirPods feature better sound and have a better mic than their predecessor. This is likely an accurate claim given how old the audio architecture and design of the original AirPods are.
Further, the new Buds and their case are IPX4 water-resistant, ensuring they can withstand a few drops of rain just like the AirPods Pro. The new AirPods also feature dynamic head tracking and a MagSafe-compatible Wireless charging case.
All of the buds, including the originals, support Hey Siri and feature Apple’s H1 chip for seamless connections to Apple products.
Where the new AirPods excel is that they have the longest battery life of all of Apple’s AirPods. Each earbud can last for 6 hours on its own and 30 hours total with the charging case.
The 3rd-gen AirPods also feature skin sensors in each ear designed to ensure they’re better at auto-pausing and playing audio when they’re in your ears. Apple says the old optical sensor can be fooled by being placed in a pocket or on a table, emphasizing that the new design works more effectively.

First-Gen AirPods vs AirPods 2: What’s The Difference? And Should You Upgrade?
Carl Velasco, Tech Times
Apple's second-generation AirPods, aptly named AirPods 2, is finally here. It comes with a handful of improvements over the first iteration — some notable, some not really. Here's a breakdown of the two models, and whether users should upgrade.
AirPods vs AirPods 2: Accessories
The original $159 AirPods came with a charging case, and the new one will sell for the same price and come with the same accessory. But now there's a $199 option that includes a wireless charging case. Alternatively, users can get the standalone wireless charging case for $79, which can also be used with the original AirPods. The case comes with a Lightning port so users can still charge it via cable if they prefer.
AirPods vs AirPods 2: Design
In terms of design, the AirPods 2 is identical to the first generation model, except for a LED indicator on the front of the wireless charging case. The light shows the charging status of the AirPods when it's placed on a Qi-compatible charging pad. On the original charging case, the LED was inside the lid between the AirPods slots.
Other than those, the two models are practically similar.
AirPods vs AirPods 2: Specs
AirPods 2 uses Apple's new H1 chip, whereas the original has a W1 chip. Both these allow the AirPods to pair seamlessly with Apple devices, but Apple claims AirPods 2 can connect up to 1.5 times faster, provide a more stable wireless connection, and switch between active devices up to twice as fast.
Moreover, the new chip boasts 30 percent lower latency, meaning users will experience fewer delays in terms of audio and display synchronization.
AirPods vs AirPods 2: Siri
Perhaps the biggest change in the new AirPods, Siri now works a little bit differently this time. In the old AirPods, users had to tap the earbuds twice to activate Siri. This time around, they can just say, "Hey Siri" to trigger it.
AirPods vs AirPods 2: Battery Life
The new AirPods lasts roughly as long as the old model. Users can squeeze up to five hours on a single charge, though Apple says the H1 chip provides 50 percent more talk time.
AirPods vs AirPods 2: Should You Upgrade?
The quick answer is no. AirPods 2 is practically identical to its predecessor, save for a chip upgrade. Those fine with double-tapping their AirPods to activate Siri shouldn't upgrade, and they can just buy the wireless charging case if they want to be able to juice the AirPods up remotely. In the regard, the AirPods 2 doesn't seem a full-fledged "upgrade" as it is a slight revamp. Get it if you skipped on the first-generation model, don't get it if you already have one.

AirPods 2 vs. Is almond milk as good for you as regular milk Pro: Which Apple wireless earbuds are best?
In this face-off, the AirPods 2 and AirPods Pro go head-to-head but only one can claim the title of Apple’s best wireless earbuds.
The AirPods Pro is considered a near-perfect product by critics, even earning a 4.5 out of 5-star rating from Laptop Mag. With adaptive sound, a customizable fit, effective active noise cancellation, and seamless integration with iOS/macOS devices, these buds come with many top-tier hallmarks. New iOS updates have also kept Apple’s flagship earbuds futureproof, at least until the rumored AirPods Pro 2 become official.
Two years after its release, the AirPods 2 remain a hot seller for budget shoppers who want the AirPods experience. Adequate talk times, clear audio, and hands-free Siri functionality, along with similar listening modes as its more premium sibling, keep this second-gen version relevant in today’s consumer market.
Despite their differences in form and specs, these two models are the best true wireless options for iPhone, iPad, and Mac users. As for which is better, well, that’s what we’re here to answer. Check out our in-depth look comparing the AirPods 2 and AirPods Pro, which breaks down the superior Apple wireless earbuds.

AirPods 2 vs. AirPods Pro: Price
Apple products are known for being expensive, but the AirPods 2 launched at an attainable price point: $159. A wireless charging version is sold for $199, which is still cheaper than the $249 AirPods Pro.
If you look on Amazon right now, both versions are currently on sale. The AirPods 2 can be had for $128.98 and the wireless charging version for $149, while the AirPods Pro is listed as low as $197.

AirPods 2 vs. AirPods Pro: Design
The AirPods’ long-stem silhouette might be synonymous with the true wireless category and has inspired hundreds of knockoffs, but, honestly, it isn’t an attractive or flattering design. When comparing these two models, the AirPods Pro is a significant upgrade from an aesthetics standpoint, featuring smaller stems, stronger build quality with IPX4 sweat and water resistance, and air vents that reduce pressure inside the ear. All of these details give the AirPods Pro a more distinguishable appearance.
The AirPods 2 is as vanilla as you would expect from a pair of Apple earbuds. We’re talking about a minimalist, all-white plastic exterior that offers zero protection. There is no IPX rating, so you have to be extremely careful exposing these buds to dirt, sweat or light splashes. The lengthy stems stick out like a sore thumb as well. Simply put, the AirPods 2 isn’t built for longevity and will break easily if dropped from a high distance or stepped on by mistake.
Different earbud designs often bring about different charging case designs, which is evident when looking at the AirPods 2 and AirPods Pro. Apple made noticeable changes to the AirPods Pro case, opting for a wider, more rectangular shape, slightly better construction, and a more powerful magnet to keep the lid shut tightly. The AirPods 2 case is smaller and more portable, but also lacks the protection and security of its counterpart. Something else worth mentioning is that both cases are scuff-and-scratch magnets.
Winner: AirPods Pro
AirPods 2 vs. AirPods Pro: Comfort and fit
It’s amazing the world of difference ear tips make. Apple finally gave in to our demands and added ear tips to the AirPods Pro that not only assist with optimizing ANC and sound by creating a tight seal but, most importantly, latch onto your ears to prevent slippage. This also makes them ideal for working out. The elongated sound port allows for easy insertion into the ears, though wearing the buds past the 2-hour mark leads to some soreness around the concha. Apple even went a step further and developed an Ear Tip Fit Test that calibrates the buds to determine the best tips for proper fitting.
The primary issue with the AirPods 2 isn’t comfort. You can prop these wireless danglers on your ears and not feel weighed down, nor fatigued difference between 1st gen airpods and 2nd hours of listening. Unfortunately, the lack of tips means these buds will constantly fall out. You can purchase third-party tips to achieve a more secure fit, but we feel you shouldn’t have to pay extra for something that Apple should have prioritized right out of the gate. There’s a reason why Apple’s replacement AirPods business has generated nearly half a billion, annually.
Winner: AirPods Pro
AirPods 2 vs. AirPods Pro: Controls
Automatic ear detection and onboard controls are programmed into both pairs of buds, though they each have different input methods. Where the AirPods 2 uses touch sensors, the AirPods Pro has a force sensor system located at the bottom of the stem. The latter serves as the more reliable control scheme, registering presses accurately and producing a nice click to ensure users of intended commands. Double-taps and hold gestures operate fine on the AirPods 2, but there are times when the sensors won’t acknowledge taps, requiring you to perform the action one or two extra times.
On-ear detection works well on the AirPods 2 and AirPods Pro. We did notice some slight latency on the AirPods 2, but nothing too off-putting. Removing the buds from your ears will pause whatever you’re listening to and placing them back resumes playback.
“Hey Siri” voice activation is available on either set of AirPods and it’s a game-changer. This places thousands of Siri commands at the tip of your tongue. Siri is also receiving a huge speed boost via the iOS 15 update that will offer on-device speech processing to complete several tasks in succession and super-fast. We favor Siri on the AirPods Pro, mainly because of its intelligible dual-mic array, which picks up vocals and long-winded verbal inquires with precision.
Our only wishes are that Apple finds a way to increase the number of controls that can be assigned to the AirPods 2 and AirPods Pro, and make Siri useable on Android devices. FYI: users can enable the AirPods 2 how to find bank routing number on check AirPods Pro’s digital assistant function on the Android bankofamerica com miuiadebitcard through third-party apps like Assistant Trigger.
Winner: AirPods Pro
AirPods 2 vs. AirPods Pro: Audio
Besides active noise cancellation, adaptive sound is the other major feature that was introduced on the AirPods Pro, and we’re very happy with the results. The soundstage is wider, meaning you’ll be able to hear individual instruments and the midrange much more clearly. Lows are also emphasized on the AirPods Pro to get more impactful bass and treble out of tracks.
Many critics agree that the AirPods 2’s sound is an upgrade from the EarPods that came bundled with older iPhone models. Don’t mistake that for top-tier performance because this isn’t a model for audiophiles. Warm sound is expected and allows for some enjoyment when indulging in bass-heavy selections, granted, clarity takes a hit. But it’s the high end that takes a significant dive, sounding heavily recessed or oftentimes absent on recordings with complex orchestral arrangements.
One cool thing about using the AirPods 2 and AirPods Pro on an iOS device is that you can personalize sound in the Settings. There is an EQ that has over 20 different presets to accommodate different music genres and video content. It’s another ingenious example of how Apple continues to optimize its software without the need for a companion app or extra hardware.
Apple’s commitment to enhancing audio is still going strong with the company launching new features over the past year to gain the best listening experience possible on either set of buds. The first is spatial audio, which adds immersive surround sound to video content and Apple Music. We believe it does a difference between 1st gen airpods and 2nd job of presenting 3D audio.
This was originally exclusive to the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max, but is being rolled out onto the AirPods 2 and compatible Beats models; check the Music section in the Settings and you might see it. Apple just announced that spatial audio with dynamic head tracking is coming to Apple Music in the fall, though it will only be available on the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max with a compatible iPhone or iPad. In addition, there is a new Spatialize Stereo option as part of the iOS 15 update that will simulate Spatial Audio for non-Dolby Atmos content.
Winner: AirPods Pro
AirPods 2 vs. AirPods Pro: App and special features
You would think the AirPods Pro crushes the AirPods 2 in functionality and extra features, but besides the few listening modes, they carry many of the same functions. These include audio sharing between two Apple or Beats headphones, automatic switching, battery life indicators, Hey Siri, Live Listen to hear conversations clearer, and Headphone Accommodations to adjust audio levels for those with hearing impairments.
We already touched on spatial audio and EQ customization. There is also the new Find My app that helps you locate misplaced AirPods. All of the other major features — Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency Mode — are afforded to the AirPods Pro.
Apple’s two-mic noise-cancelling array surprisingly blocks out external sounds at a high level. No, the technology isn’t beating what is stuffed inside the current true wireless ANC king, the Bose QuietComfort Earbuds. Either way, you’ll be satisfied with the noise reduction it difference between 1st gen airpods and 2nd. We’ve found the feature useful for muting chatty co-workers, loud TVs, and the humming sounds from our AC. High-frequency noises like crying babies and sirens will creep onto the soundscape, but unless they are a few feet away from you, they aren’t distracting enough to pull you from whatever’s playing on Apple Music.
Transparency mode works well for eavesdropping on conversations and conveying coffee orders to baristas without having to take off the buds. You’ll also gain a better sense of awareness when in rowdy settings by identifying specific sounds.
Winner: AirPods Pro
AirPods Pro vs. Pixel Buds 2: Battery Life
Apple rates battery life on the AirPods Pro at 4.5 hours and 5 hours on the AirPods 2. Wait, so the older model has longer playtimes than the newest model? Yes, but that is only when factoring in ANC. You can extend playtimes on the AirPods Pro to 5 hours when turning off ANC, which might be the case for most people who use their buds religiously to stream media or FaceTime. Nonetheless, you’re looking at about 2 to 3 days of moderate use at best, even less if you’re a music lover who requires sonic stimulation all day long at your work desk.
Fortunately, Apple has done a magnificent job with battery management, engineering the H1 chip to learn your daily charging routine and refrain from charging past 80% until necessary. This approach helps preserve the health of your battery. The AirPods 2 and AirPods Pro will squeeze every bit of juice out before requiring a recharge.
The AirPods 2 and AirPods Pro charging cases share the same playtime: 24 hours when fully charged. That equates to four or five extra charges, depending on how you use the buds daily. Wireless charging is available, though the AirPods 2 offers it for a premium.
AirPods 2 vs. AirPods Pro: Call Quality
Call quality on the AirPods 2 difference between 1st gen airpods and 2nd great, but it is excellent on the AirPods Pro. Will you hear calls clearly on either pair of buds? Yes. Are you still getting 50% more talk time? Indeed. Is dropout an issue? Not at all. Does wind affect clarity? Very rarely, thanks to impressive wind resistance.
It’s just that the AirPods Pro’s mics are better engineered to pick up vocals and minimize external distractions. Personalized fit is also a major bonus since you’ll feel more at ease taking calls on the streets without worrying about the buds falling into a sewer drain. The AirPods Pro also offers a longer talk time: 3.5 hours versus 3 hours.
Winner: AirPods Pro
Overall winner: AirPods Pro
Apple made every improvement it possibly could with the AirPods Pro, and then some. It’s all about the ecosystem, as the H1 chip combined with flawless iOS integration and exclusive features gives these pricier buds more mass appeal. The adaptive EQ is a difference-maker that promises clearer sound. Apple’s first foray into active noise cancellation is successful due to highly effective noise reduction that is capable of silencing 85 percent of external sounds. Whine all you want about the short battery life, but that is the only legitimate drawback when matched up against its predecessor.
|AirPods 2||AirPods Pro|
|Comfort and fit (10)||7||9|
|App and special features (20)||16||18|
|Battery life and charging case (10)||6||7|
|Call quality (5)||3||4|
|Total score (100)||72||84|
Now, don’t take the AirPods 2 losing this battle as a sign of it being less worthy of ownership. At full price, iPhone users are still getting high-performance buds that will likely advance with future iOS 15 updates, extending their shelf life just a little longer before the AirPods 3 are introduced. Sound isn’t the best, nor the worst, and to have key features like “Hey Siri” and automatic switching is rewarding. On the other hand, we would be remiss not to state that battery life is much shorter than what other rivals offer, plus the design is stale at this point.
If you have the extra $50 or $100 (keep an eye out for those great sales), the AirPods Pro stands out as the more logical purchase.
Airpods are popular and expensive. For that reason, scammers sell either fake Airpods or market products as Gen 2 Airpods when they are in fact Gen 1. Unfortunately, the Airpods’ appearance didn’t change between the two generations. As a matter of fact, the Gen 1 case will charge the Gen 2 AirPods and vise versa.
Naturally, there’s a difference in price between the two generations and some added functionality to the gen 2 Airpods. These were released in early 2019, and some models come with a wireless charging case.
Read on for a detailed guide that will help you verify that your Airpods are gen 2. We also have more tips and tricks for your Airpods here.
Check the Model Number
The most reliable way of finding out if your Airpods are gen 1 or 2 is checking the model number. This is a foolproof way of establishing your Airpods’ authenticity, and it isn’t hard to figure out.
The model number of your Airpods is located on the underside of each case and on each Airpod. As stated previously, the Gen 1 and Gen 2 Airpods look similar and can be charged in each others’ case. It’s a good idea to check each component for the appropriate model number.
The model numbers for each component correlate to their Generation as follows:
Gen 1 Airpods
Gen 2 Airpods
The newest in the lineup of mini bluetooth devices follow the same rule but is unmistakable compared to other two based on appearance alone.
Wireless Charging Case
If you’re prepared to pay premium price for a wireless charging case, be preapared to check that the serial number matches that of the case:
Lightning Charging Case
The Lightning Charging Case is pretty basic and requires a lightning cable to charge. It’s a great case because it’s interchangable between the two models:
Lastly, and just to reiterate the importance, checking each Airpod for it’s appropriate serial number is vital to your ability to use the Airpods. Unfortunately, a case that has mismatched Airpods is unable to pair. Your iPhone will throw a message that the Airpods are mismatched and will not allow you to pair them.
Another device like a Samsung device, won’t throw any error codes, it just won’t pair.
Check the Model Number Using iPhone
If you can’t see this small text, don’t despair. There’s an alternative method for checking the model number. But you’ll need your iOS device if you have one connected to your Airpods.
Follow these steps to retrieve the model number on your device:
- On your device, open the Settings menu, then choose the General section, and tap on About.
- Go through the list until you find the name of your AirPods (e.g. Lisa’s Airpods). Tap on the name.
- The manufacture information should appear, showing you the model number among other things.
Again, if you have the model number compare it to these numbers: Airpods (gen 1) have model numbers A1722 and A1523; Airpods (gen 2) have model numbers A2031 and A2032. If your model number doesn’t match any of these, you might have a fake set of Airpods – which happens a lot.
Therefore, always buy Airpods directly from Apple or their official resellers.
Check Your Charging Case
The charging cases for Airpods are interchangeable (you can charge gen 1 Airpods with the gen 2 charging case and vice versa). Again, the best way is to check the model number. The wireless charging case (gen 2) has the model number A1938.
They have a lightning connector at the bottom of the case which serves for plug-in charging. The status light is visible at the front of the case, while the model number is on the bottom side of the lid.
The lightning charging case (gen 1) has the model number A1602, which is also located on the bottom side of the lid. As is the lightning connector. However, the status light is visible inside the charging case.
Other Noteworthy Differences
The updated Gen 2 Airpods have many additional upgrades compared to the first Airpods. The switching time between connected devices is two times faster than with the original Airpods. They also have better voice and audio quality overall.
Also, they have an additional hour of talk time. Difference between 1st gen airpods and 2nd, they can either be voice-activated or double-tapped for Siri, Apple’s voice assistant. The latency is 30% lower than when using the original Airpods.
Most of the benefits of the Gen 2 Airpods feature come from the H1 chip. This chip enables better connectivity, audio quality, and reduces latency. The original Airpods had a W1 chip, which isn’t bad at all, but it can’t compete with the H1 chip.
Activating Siri on the old Airpods is somewhat harder because you need to double-tap one of your Airpods. Voice activation is the way of the future, as it feels more intuitive and simpler. Just say “Hey, Siri” and see if Siri activates. You can also use this to see if you have vanilla Airpods or Airpods gen 2.
Buying the wireless charging case for either of your Airpods is optional. But it’s costly, so you have to decide if this feature is worth the money. Definitely complain to Apple if you paid for the wireless case and got a regular one.
Brand New Airpods
Fans of Apple products generally like keeping track of new Citi world elite mastercard login inventions. If you’re a die-hard fan, and you liked the original Airpods, the 2nd gen Airpods are definitely for you. They have better call quality, battery life, reduced latency, etc.
The price difference is actually not that high unless you decide to grab a wireless charging chinese restaurants in fort smith arkansas too. Assess your needs and make a decision yourself. Now you know the clear distinction between Airpods and Airpods gen 2.
